White Salmon Boy Scout creates 'Bingen, WA Welcomes You' signs

A previous photo in The Enterprise erroneously attributed the design of the new signs welcoming visitors to Bingen. We regret the mistake.

Kevin Horton Schleicher, 16, stands with the “Bingen Welcomes You” sign on the east side of town that he spent more than a year designing and building along with a second sign on the west side of town. Schleicher designed and built the signs as part of his Eagle Scout project with the help of Boy Scout Troops 384 and 282, Columbia High School woodshop, and donations from the local Rotary Club and SDS Lumber. The signs are adorned with huckleberries in honor of Bingen’s Huckleberry Festival and were erected by crews with the City of Bingen with structural engineering conducted by Bell Design.
