Costa Norte FC completes successful inaugural season

Costa Norte Futbol Club finished up its inaugural season on a successful note beating Hood River BSC in a friendly game on Sunday. The U-8 boys won 4-2 and the U-10 boys won 5-2. Costa Norte Futbol Club (FC) is the competitive soccer team that formed late last winter.

“White Salmon Community Youth's Board of Directors wanted to give a more focused and competitive experience for kids serious about soccer and began to develop a team,” said Dan Miller, one of the club’s three coaches.

The cost of competitive teams makes it difficult for many to play. Fortunately, the Grabbe Family and Yoga Samadhi offered generous support to the effort and Costa Norte FC was formed in March of this year. White Salmon School District was able to help the team with a field to practice and play home games on. Miller, Jacob Kellert, and Tom Wooding coached the two teams, which practiced Sunday afternoons.

Wooding and the White Salmon Community Youth Board are now busy accepting registration applications for the Fall Rec Soccer League. Wooding noted that the Fall Soccer League is about developing basics for young kids and getting them the experience on the ball.

“Kids develop as they get older and by fifth grade are playing more serious soccer on a full field,” Wooding said.

Boys and girls from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade are encouraged to register online at http://www.wscy.org/category/soccer-2/.

People who register and pay by Aug. 1 will receive a $4 discount. Anyone with questions about Fall Soccer or how to register should contact Angie Buchanan at 541-490- 1999.
