The White Salmon Farmers’ market opens for the 2016 season on Tuesday, June 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Rhinegarten Park.
The opening day kickoff party celebrates the market’s move to their new location, as well as the start of summer. The celebration will feature the festive live music of Samba Hood Rio from 5 to 7 p.m. In addition, Solstice Pizza, who has joined the market as a regular hot food vendor, will be on site serving fresh pies cooked in their mobile oven.
Families with younger children can look forward to making crafts from recycled materials with Klickitat County Health Department, this week’s kids’ activity volunteer. Market shoppers can expect to find a wide variety of local food, including fresh produce, meat, eggs, baked goods, and kombucha.
The White Salmon Farmers’ Market management team says the move to the park reinforces the markets’ mission to be a community gathering place where people can buy fresh, healthy food from local farmers.
“We’re excited to welcome back some of our long-time vendors and introduce a few new faces to the community. The move to the park opens up a lot of possibilities for this market,” says Dawn Glasser, market co-manager and owner of Columbia Gorge Garlic.
Bruce Bolme, co-manager and board member of Community Enrichment for Klickitat County, notes that shopping at the farmers’ market helps strengthen our local economy.
“The market generated over $30,000 in sales of local goods in 2015. In addition, we offered hundreds of dollars in benefits to low-income shoppers,” he said.
The market will once again offer a cash-match program for customers shopping with EBT cards and WIC/Senior vouchers.
