On Friday, Sept. 18, Boy Scout Troop 282 sponsored by the Hood River Lions Club held a Court of Honor at the Rockford Grange Hall in Hood River in recognition of eight outstanding young men, including one from White Salmon.
Members of the White Salmon Jazz Band (WSJB) met in spite of a smoky Saturday, Aug. 22, in Bingen for a reunion concert that doubled as practice before performing at the Huckleberry Festival that will take place Sept. 11 through Sept. 13.
Members of the Bingen and White Salmon community gathered Saturday afternoon, June 27, in Bingen’s Daubenspeck Park to observe the unveiling and dedication of the new skate park sign and honorary plaques.

Stevenson Grange #121 and Stevenson Community Library co-sponsored a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) demonstration recently at the Stevenson Community Library. The event is a continuation of the Grange’s 2015 Community Resiliency Programs with CERT.
White Salmon’s newly appointed city councilor is also a candidate for the office in this fall’s General Election.
The 2015 Ketchum Kalf Rodeo Queen is 15-year-old Shania Weifenbach. Shania is the daughter of Steve and Sonya Shields of White Salmon. Shania is a straight-A student at Columbia High School where she just completed her freshman year.
“Join the dark side, we have cookies,” was one of the signs superimposed over a life-size cut out of Darth Vader at the home of Amy Miller, Mat Cox, and their son Connor Miller-Cox on Sunday, June 7.
Lyle High School hosted artist Daniel Dancer of Mosier last Friday for the district’s Art for the Sky event. Students from Dallesport Elementary, the Wishram School District, Lyle Secondary School, and Lyle community members participated in the event, creating a human painting of a salmon in a field behind the high school.
Ashley Hackett is excited to be living in White Salmon. The cooler weather is a nice change from the humidity of Virginia, although she confesses to not having experienced the intense winters that are expected of the Columbia Gorge.
April’s “Wild About Nature” series continued at the White Salmon Valley Community Library last Friday and featured speakers Jim Hulbert, talking about Nesting Habits of Western Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, and Wood Ducks; and Tom Snellgrove, who spoke about the efforts he and his wife have taken to preserve the wildlife and habitat on their 10-acre home.
Taking a ride up Lyle’s Old Highway 8 onto Canyon Road leads to the source of some of the Gorge’s happiest gardens.
Fiona Grabb, 5, peeks under the White Salmon Christmas tree during the “I’m Dreaming of a White Salmon” holiday celebration and tree lighting festival Saturday night. Children were able to select a small present from under the tree while others roasted marshmallows and sipped hot cocoa and cider before the tree became illuminated with holiday spirit.
