Curtis Duane Stephenson passed away at the Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles, Ore., on July 26, 2018. He was 83 years old. Duane was born to Bessie Beatrice (Courtney) and Jim Lewis Stephenson on Sept. 21, 1934, in Sweetwater, Okla.
He served honorably in the United States Army. On Sept. 13, 1969, he married Rita Fern Crawford in Stevenson.
Duane worked for many years as the maintenance man and janitor for the Mt. Adams Elks Lodge #1868. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and BPOE #1868.
Mr. Stephenson loved bowling and was an avid fan of both professional and local sports. He also coached little league and refereed basketball games.
Duane is survived by his wife Rita Stephenson of White Salmon; children Laura (Galen) May of The Dalles, Troy (April) Stephenson of The Dalles and Cecil “Bud” Crawford of White Salmon; grandchildren Valerie May of Hermiston, Ore., and Evan (Nikki) May of Goldendale; great-granddaughter Lilly May of Goldendale; brothers Chester Leo (Kaye) Stephenson of White Salmon and John Donald “Toppy” Stephenson of North Bonneville; and sister Louise Stephenson Mulford of Sunnyside. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 5 sisters. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon.
