Monty Joseph Crews, 82, of White Salmon, passed away at his home on March 11, 2018, surrounded by family. He was born in White Salmon on Sept. 27, 1935, to Mildred Edith (Schilling) and Richard Lee Crews.
Monty joined the United States Navy on Oct. 12, 1953, and served until his honorable discharge on Oct. 9, 1957.
He had a lengthy career as a timber faller in the Mid-Columbia area.
Monty married Patricia Meyer in Minden, Nev., on May 3, 1985.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, clamming, camping and riding his ATV. He also enjoyed traveling the US and overseas visiting Hong Kong and Europe. His hunting trips took him to Alaska, New Zealand and on an African safari.
Monty raced motorcycles professionally in Portland, Ore. He also raced and ran the Drifters Motorcycle Club in B.Z. Corners.
He was Past President of Mt. Adams FOE #2210 in Bingen and Past Exalted Ruler of Mt. Adams BPOE #1868 in White Salmon.
He will be missed by his wife Pat Crews of White Salmon; son Kevin (Wendy) Crews of Spokane; daughters Monica (Lonnie) Roth of Underwood; Debora Geschwint of Vancouver; Lisa (Monte) Estey of Everett; Diane (Dave) Olmstead of Federal Way; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and brother Larry Crews of Issaquah. He will also be remembered by his nephew, nieces, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
A memorial service will be held this summer for family and friends.
