About 20 protesters from Skamania, Klickitat, and Clark counties rallied outside of Skamania Lodge last Wednesday morning to protest U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s lack of town hall meetings.
The congresswoman hasn’t scheduled any town hall meetings for the last Congressional recess. Rep. Herrera Beutler was in Skamania County last week speaking at an economic development event at the Skamania Lodge. Attendees of the luncheon paid a plate fee. Before venturing to Stevenson, Rep. Herrera Beutler’s staff held a telephone town hall Tuesday evening, which according to Skamania Lodge protesters, wasn’t a legitimate town hall.
Protesters said they were displeased that Herrera Beutler wouldn’t meet with constituents. “We want to be heard,” said Mary Kay McNallan, of White Salmon. “She’s supposed to represent everybody. We just want to be heard.”
