The Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the proposed Energy Overlay Zone (EOZ) for Klickitat County was released on Sept. 3.

The FEIS for the EOZ evaluates probable significant adverse environmental impacts of the proposed energy overlay plan.

The EOZ consists of amendments to the county zoning code, zoning ordinance, zoning maps, and comprehensive plan to implement the EOZ.

According to the Klickitat County Planning Department, the EOZ regulations are intended to "provide areas suitable for the establishment of energy resource operations based on the availability of energy resources, existing infrastructure, and locations where energy projects can be sensitively sited and mitigated, and to provide siting criteria for the utilization of wind, gas-fired, bio-mass, and solar energy resources."

The EOZ is available at the Planning Department Web site: It may also be reviewed at the Planning Department office in Goldendale, or at the White Salmon or Goldendale public libraries.

The Planning Department will sell compact disk copies of the FEIS for $5, while paper copies cost $75.

Appeals of the EIS must be made to the Board of County Commissioners by 5 p.m., Sept. 24. Appeals need to be in writing and filed with the Klickitat County Auditor's Office, accompanied by a fee of $175.
