Columbia High girls tennis opened its 2015 season on March 27 with a 4-1 meet win at Stevenson.
CHS’s Olivia Grim, Katelyn Clavette, and Alexa O’Gorman swept the singles matches, while the Bruins split the two doubles matches.
Grim dominated her opponent in No. 1 singles, losing just one game in two sets (6-0, 6-1).
The highlight of the meet was Clavette’s performance in the No. 2 singles match, according to Bruins Coach Linda Hilkey.
“They played for three hours,” Hilkey said. “It was fun to watch the girls grind it out.”
Clavette prevailed in three sets. She lost the opening set 7-5 but rebounded to win the second, 6-2, and the third, 7-5.
O’Gorman cruised in her No. 3 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Stevenson earned its lone victory in No. 1 doubles play. The Bulldogs twosome downed CHS’s Hannah Sauter and Emily Wanner, 7-5, 6-2.
Sonia Cortez and Yulissa Huila got the Bruins a split in doubles by taking the No. 2 match, 6-1, 6-0.
In junior varsity doubles, Columbia won all three matches, which were played under a pro set format.
Maria Ledezma and Bailey Hill, and Vanessa Alvarez and Alexa O’Gorman both prevailed, 8-0, while Claudia Hernandez and Mireya Huila won their set by a score of 8-2.
On Monday, the Bruins hosted a squad from The Dalles Wahtonka on the Park Center courts. The win went to the visitors, 4-1.

Alexa O’Gorman earned CHS’s lone victory on the day in No. 3 singles as she prevailed 6-0, 6-2.
In No. 1 doubles, Hannah Sauter and Maria Calderilla won their opening set 6-2, but lost the match with 6-3, 6-1 losses in the following sets.
Sonia Cortez and Yulissa Huila-Carabantes lost their No. 2 doubles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
In JV doubles, Mireya Huila and Alyssa Park, and Jesse Nunn and Zoe Williams prevailed in pro sets, 8-4 and 8-6, respectively.
