Columbia High sat atop 1A Trico League baseball standings at the end of the 2019 season’s first month.

The Bruins swept a three-game series from the Castle Rock Rockets last week to make their Trico record 3-0.

Columbia took two from Castle Rock here March 26, winning by scores of 14-4 in six innings and 6-5 in seven.

CHS wrapped up the series last Friday with a 4-0 victory in Castle Rock.

Senior right-hander Dav-is Koester improved to 2-0 with the decision in game one of the March 26 double-header.

He threw five-innings of two-hit ball at the Rockets, who led 2-0 after the top of the third on a walk and three of CHS’s seven total errors.

The lead was short-lived as the Bruins pushed five runs across home plate in the bottom of the third.

Columbia used four walks, a hit batsman, and run-scoring singles by Aus-tin Charters and Jordan Trout to give Koester the lead.

Koester gave up two more runs (both unearned) in the fourth on a hit and two errors, but the Bruins answered in kind, and then some, in the home half of the inning.

Six consecutive walks by Castle Rock pitchers and an RBI single by Payden Web-ster contributed to the Bru-ins six-run uprising.

Trout led CHS with three runs batted in. Webster and Garrett Hogberg each tallied two RBI.

Dominic Raether closed out the Rockets with a perfect sixth inning.

In game two, the Bruins got on the scoreboard first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first.

Trenton Howard drew a lead-off walk, stole second, and scored on Trevor Coop-er’s infield single. A throwing error led to two more CHS runs.

The Rockets took the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits, two walks, and a hit batsman.

Columbia tied things up in the bottom of the inning. Raether lifted a fly ball to deep right-center for a triple that brought in Trout, who had led off with a single.

A two-run outburst in the fifth put Columbia ahead to stay.

Koester singled to bring in Howard, and Cooper’s RBI ground out knocked in Sean McMahon to make the score 6-4.

Castle Rock got a run back in the sixth following a lead-off double and CHS’s second error of the game.

Castle Rock threatened in the top of the seventh versus Raether, who was working his third inning of relief.

A lead-off single went for naught, however, as Rae-ther induced a ground ball that CHS’s middle infield turned into a double-play.

Raether, who picked up his first win, got the final out on a grounder. All told, the left-hander surrendered three hits and two walks, and struck out three.

Columbia made it three in a row over the Rockets on Friday.

The Bruins started slowly but found scoring success in the third, fifth, and seventh innings while their pitchers fired blanks at the Rockets.

Cooper got credit for two runs batted in a game in which hits were hard to come by. CHS outhit Castle Rock, 5-4, in seven innings.

Koester earned his third decision in relief of Hog-berg. He struck out four in 4.1 innings.

Columbia 13, at Corbett 0: The Bruins scored a non-league win on Monday at the home of the Cardinals.

Garrett Hogberg improv-ed to 2-1 with a solid effort over 5.1 innings. The right-hander struck out a career-high eight batters.

Trenton Howard, Davis Koester, and Dominic Rae-ther each had two of the Bruins’ 11 hits.

Koester collected three runs batted in, while Hog-berg and Jack Kelly each drove in two.
