Sisters Skyla and Willow Hollowell, of White Salmon, were at the top of their disciplines during Oregon Swimming’s 11-14 Age Group State Championships in Corvallis, which were Feb. 22-24.
Swimming for the Hood River Osprey club, Skyla swam best times in four out of five events, and earned a spot on the club’s Girls Honor Roll by swimming 100 yards freestyle in under 60 seconds during a time trial on Feb. 24.
Skyla also dropped nearly 5 seconds in the 500 free, almost 3 in the 400 individual medley (IM), 1.5 seconds off her 200 IM, and about a second improvement in both the 200 free and the 100 free. “Great swimming,” said Osprey Coach Shelly Rawding.
As for Willow, she “kept accelerating through the meet and ended up with personal best times in every event,” Rawding noted.
Willow snagged an Age Group Regional time in the 50 butterfly while dropping a half a second. She shaved off 2 seconds in the 100 fly, almost 2 seconds in the 100 IM in a time trial, 1.5 seconds off her 200 IM, and a second off both her best 50 and 100 backstroke times.
