Senior Hailey Johnson’s fourth-place finish in the State Girls 120-pound weight class led Columbia High’s performance at last weekend’s Mat Classic XXXI in the Tacoma Dome.

The fourth-place medal matched the one Johnson won as a junior at 115 pounds. Johnson finished her CHS career as the most decorated female wrestler in program history, ranking first in wins, pins, and best state finish. Moreover, her two state medals give her the same number as former CHS boys standout Alex Medina.

Johnson, who entered her second state tournament as the Washington Wrestling Report’s No. 3-ranked 120-pounder, posted a 4-2 record last weekend to give her a 7-4 career State record. She reached the semifinal round for the second straight year.

Juniors Payden Webster (120) and Jack Kelly (132), and sophomore David Durham (285) all won at least one match in the State 1A Boys tournament. Each, however, failed to make it out of his consolation bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
