K/G volleyball

The Klickitat/Glenwood volleyball team played a Breast Cancer Awarness match against the Klickitat alumni last Saturday in honor of Klickitat resident Tracy Schlangen (front and center), who is fighting breast cancer.

Klickitat/Glenwood volleyball sewed up the Greater Columbia 1B League championship and a No. 1 district seed with a four-set victory on Oct. 22 over Sunnyside Christian.
 
The win gave Klickwood a sweep of the season series and helped lift their league record to 6-1 with one regular-season match remaining on Oct. 29 at Bickleton.
 
Klickwood lost the first set to the host Knights, 25-22, but swept the next three, 25-17, 25-14, 25-18, to claim their ninth overall win in 14 starts.

“We had another amazing night of Klickwood Volley-ball,” head coach Jaecee Hoctor said. “The girls played hard and consistent. Our fan power was unreal as we swept the last three sets from Sunnyside in their gym.”

Brooklyn Emerson had a dominant performance on the attack. She finished with 19 kills. Laney Tuthill chipped in four kills.

Julie Fink did her best to feed her hitters clean sets. The results? She passed for a team-high 13 assists. Naha-leigh Schuster added four assists.

Schuster made her biggest impact at the service line, where she put 17-of-18 offerings in play. Two went for aces. Emerson tallied three aces.
 
Klickitat/Glenwood 3, at Trout Lake 1: Klickwood needed four sets and outstanding serving to beat the Mustangs last Friday.

Klickwood won the first set 25-10. Trout Lake won a hard-fought second set, 26-24.

The next two sets were not as close as Klickwood prevailed by scores of 25-16 and 25-19.

Laney Tuthill put all 34 of her serves in play; four of them went for aces.
Savannah Green also scored four aces, on 18-of-19 serving. Kaitlynn Spino and Julie Fink each tallied thee aces.

Brooklyn Emerson led all Klickwood hitters with 10 kills. Spino registered seven and Tuthill recorded four. Nahaleigh Schuster chipped in three.
Fink and Schuster combined for 21 assists.

Highlights for Klickwood included Savannah Green’s 21-for-22 serving with four aces; Brooklin Emersons’s 13 kills; Julie Fink’s 13 assists;  and Laney Tuthill’s two scoring blocks.
