Lyle/Wishram/Klickitat and Tekoa-Rosalia are headed for a Southeast 1B League showdown in Week 9 of the prep football season.
Both teams remained un-beaten in league play with big wins last Friday.
The Cougars (6-0 in conference) traveled to Colton in Whitman County to take on the Tigers. For the second-straight week, LWK put up at least 70 points. The final score was 72-26.
Colton couldn’t contain Cougars tailback Brandon Montoya. The senior busted loose for 508 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns.
He ran for 381 yards and six TDs on 11 carries and caught two TD passes from quarterback Cruz Montoya for 129 yards.
LWK scored on its second play of the game after recovering a fumble at the Colton 45-yard line.
Cruz Montoya, who had three TD passes total, connected with Aaron Smith on a 25-yard gain. On the ensuing play, Brandon Montoya broke free for a 20-yard scoring run.
Later in the first, the Montoyas hooked up on a 66-yard scoring pass play. The score after one quarter was 14-0.
Montoya made it 20-0 with 11:47 left in the second quarter with a 91-yard TD run. He scored three more touchdowns in the stanza to give the Cougars a 44-6 halftime lead.
Cruz Montoya (7 for 13, 219 yards) threw his third touchdown pass of the night in the third quarter to Zander Talley, who had two catches for 59 yards. That started the 40-point-lead running clock.
Brandon Montoya tacked on two rushing TDs to help LWK extend its lead to 65-12 through three quarters.
Colton scored once more in the third and in the fourth with the clock running.
Smith led an active LWK defense that forced and recovered two fumbles and recorded six quarterback sacks.
Smith had 10 solo stops among his 18 total tackles. Cannon Talley and Harriman Palmer each got in on eight tackles.
Coming up: LWK is back on the road Friday for a trip to Dufur to play the four-time defending Oregon 8-man champions.
The non-conference game kicks off a 7 p.m.
The Rangers are 4-3 this season and coming off a 50-30 home loss to Pilot Rock/-Nixyawii.
