Voter Registration

Masked up and socially distant, volunteers from the League of Women’s Voters of Klickitat and Skamania County are registering people to vote in anticipation of the Aug. 4 primary. Have you registered to vote? They will sign you up on the spot. Find the stand in the parking lot across from Harvest Market, every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 p.m. until the primary. The nonpartisan group intends to run another registration drive from September to October in anticipation of the 2020 general election. On the ballot this voting cycle are candidates running for the offices of Klickitat County Commissioner, position 1, Klickitat County Commissioner, position 3, and State Representative, District 14. Voters will also decide on a levy lid lift from $.368 to $.90 per $1,000 of assessed value to benefit Dallesport Fire District No. 6. In Skamania County, one local race is up for grabs, Skamania County Commissioner District 1, with Jeremy Bechtel, who prefers the Democratic Party, challenging incumbent Richard Mahar, who prefers the Republican Party. Ballots have been mailed out by last week, per the Klickitat County Auditor’s Office. For a list of dropbox locations, klickitatcounty.org/1136/ElectionsVoter-Registration.
